9 September 2009 - Let the Games Begin – Neptune’s 47th season starts September 22
New Artistic Director George Pothitos will take centre stage as the curtain rises on Neptune’s 2009/2010 season beginning September 22nd in Fountain Hall with the Marivaux masterpiece The Game of Love and Chance.
Featuring witty dialogue and lavish period set and costume designs The Game of Love and Chance tells the story of a wealthy Parisian mademoiselle who dreading the prospects of an arranged marriage trades identities with her maid prior to the introductory rendezvous. When the monsieur in question also has the same brilliant idea, romance, comedy and mayhem unfold.
“I wanted to start the season off with a big celebration. The play is a wonderful comic romp in the commedia d’ellarte tradition that everyone will really enjoy,” says Pothitos. “Certainly the costumes and sets, along with many of the themes are consistent with 18th century France. But this adaptation is very much a modern romantic comedy that will keep audiences laughing throughout the evening.”
The Game of Love and Chance stars Sharon Bernbaum (Frost/Nixon), David Snelgrove, Adrian Griffin, David Hughes (Tuesdays with Morrie), Jody Stevens, Derek Moran, Andrea Lee Norwood (The Miracle Worker, Doubt, A Parable) and Jeff Scwager. Set design is by Geofrey Dinwiddie, costume design is by Patrick Clark with lighting by Leigh Ann Vardy.
Tuesday, September 22nd is “Pay What You Can” night, with the play officially opening on Friday, September 25th. Evening performance times are Tuesday to Friday at 8 pm, Saturdays at 8:30 pm and Sundays at 7:30 pm. Matinee performances are held on Saturdays at 4:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm. Ticket prices start at $15 (+tax). The Game of Love and Chance runs until October 18th.
