Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan in

JANUARY 30 - FEBRUARY 25, 2024

By Tom Stoppard

Fate leads our two heroes to a tragic but inevitable end.

Hamlet is turned topsy-turvy in this brilliant modern comedic masterpiece that thrusts Shakespeare’s two minor characters to the forefront with no rules except one: they are destined to die. Reality and illusion mix as bewildered Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are trapped in a universe where their lives are left to chance with the flip of a coin. Can our hapless protagonists triumph in a battle of wits, escape their fate, and make sense of a senseless world?

Neptune welcomes actors Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan to Neptune Theatre in the title roles of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, or perhaps Guildenstern & Rosencrantz! "We are thrilled that these two internationally known actors have agreed to reunite, on stage this time, in a modern classic,' says Artistic Director Jeremy Webb. "It really is a beautiful fit and audiences will delight in seeing them performing together again and in such a strong play. They will be surrounded by a terrific supporting cast and creative team.

"Very funny, very brilliant, very chilling; it has the dust of thought about it and
the particles glitter excitingly in the theatrical air."
-The New York Times

"A stimulating, funny, imaginative comedy."
-The New York Daily News

Billy Boyd is a Scottish actor best known for his beloved performance as Pippin in the Oscar-winning blockbuster The Lord of the Rings trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson. As a talented musician he later went on to co-write and perform the song The Last Goodbye for Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
Billy’s acting career has been nothing but versatile. Working on films such as Walking With Herb (Optimism), Tell It To The Bees (BFI) and The Flying Scotsman (ContentFilm). TV credits span over years and include roles in Doom Patrol (HBO), Hollywood (Netflix), Outlander (Starz) and Grey’s Anatomy (ABC). He joined the Oz universe in Leigh Scott’s mini-series The Witches of Oz and film Dorothy and the Witches of Oz, performing as Nick Chopper in both and also lent his voice to Glen/Glenda in feature film Seed of Chucky, part of the hugely popular Child’s Play franchise.
Billy can next be seen in the role of Willard in Hulu’s highly-anticipated upcoming television mini-series Washington Black.
Theatre credits include the role of Banquo in Macbeth at Shakespeare’s Globe and the lead role in Enquirer at the National Theatre of Scotland.
Dominic Monaghan can most recently be seen starring in Peter Ocko’s AMC+ series entitled MOONHAVEN. He’s also currently starring in the new, highly rated Audible podcast, MORIARTY: THE DEVIL’S GAME as ‘Professor Moriarty.’ The 10-episode series was penned by the award-winning writer, Charles Kindinger (KILL SWITCH, EDGE OF WINTER). Dom can recently be seen in the feature film EDGE OF THE WORLD opposite Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and he and Tim Kirby’s WALDO opposite Mel Gibson and Charlie Hunnam. Dominic is an English film & television star and can be seen reuniting with J.J Abrams in STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, after they collaborated on the smash hit ABC show LOST. He exploded onto the international scene by starring as ‘Merry’ in Peter Jackson’s LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy. After garnering  universal acclaim for his portrayal of the adventurous Hobbit, he found himself one of the busiest and hardest-working men in the industry; Monaghan has continued to star in major studio tentpoles like X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, while also finding major success in the independent space with films like I SELL THE DEAD (which he also helped executive produce alongside Guillermo Del Toro). His indie PET debuted in one of SXSW’s coveted Midnight Screening slots to enormous critical acclaim.
