Ethno-cultural mandate or ethno-cultural casting statement:

Neptune Theatre seeks to promote equity, inclusion and access by amplifying voices and stories that have been historically marginalize or underrepresented, and we factor this into every decision we make. We encourage submissions from artists of all genders, ethnicities, abilities and identities, and will give scheduling priority to those who self-identify as IBPOC, LGBTQ2S+, d/Deaf, living with disabilities, and/or facing other systemic challenges in our industry.

Applying artists should be aware that Neptune does not tolerate any form of harassment of its employees, clients, volunteers, or any persons visiting or spending time on its premises.

Neptune Theatre is located on sacred land that has been the site of human activity for over 12,000 years. We are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People, and we acknowledge them as the past, present and future caretakers of this land.

As artists, we are grateful to work and build community here. As stewards of culture, we commit to continuing to improve our relations with Indigenous People and upholding values of collaboration and inclusivity in all that we do.

Audition information

Neptune Theatre will be holding General Auditions digitally for the 2021-22 season.

Artistic Director Jeremy Webb would like to see Artists that he has not seen or worked with before.

Artists should submit their labelled (First Name_Last Name) materials - a cover letter, headshot and resume - through the Neptune submissions portal:

No agency submissions, agents please ask your clients to submit individually. Only selected Artists will be contacted.

Auditions will be held on Zoom during the mornings (Halifax time) on dates April 12-15th, 2021.

Selected artists will be asked to submit a digital audition, lasting no more than 5 minutes. The tape can contain any material that the artist wishes to submit including pre-existing taped material. Neptune will share a link to a small library of sides to choose from, for those interested artists that have been selected.

Artists will then be offered an audition time slot on Zoom. The panel will meet with the artist as arranged and the tape will be viewed as part of that meeting, with time for further conversation after the viewing.

Video auditions are not the most effective way to see artists, but with COVID-restrictions and public health important to us all, we believe this format will be a good interim process and keep audition day stress to a minimum.

Artists may also choose to NOT join us for an audition slot and just submit their tape.

Equity members will be seen first at all open audition calls. Equity members cast in the 2021-2022 season will be engaged under an Equity form of contract. CAEA members: please bring your membership card to the audition.
