Community & Accessibility

Here at Neptune, we believe that the magic of live theatre should be available for everyone. We are pleased to be able to offer lower-priced options for tickets, made available through our partners, for programs such as Bell Aliant Pay What You Can and Sun Life Share the Stage. We also provide wheelchair accessible seating, sensory-friendly performances, and ASL-interpreted performances.

Neptune Theatre actively works with community partners to help make the theatre more accessible. In January 2019, thanks to the generous support of our partners, we opened our doors and welcomed students from the Halifax Regional Centre for Education to a free student matinée.

American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreted Performances

On select dates throughout the season, Neptune Theatre offers ASL-interpreted performances for the Deaf and hearing impaired members of our community. These performances feature real-time ASL interpretation by a team of qualified interpreters, working alongside the action of the play. Whether in Fountain Hall or on the Scotiabank Stage, our teams work to create a fully realized theatre experience that can be enjoyed by both Deaf and hearing audiences.

  • When booking tickets (boxoffice@neptunetheatre.com), members of the Deaf community should identify themselves in order to ensure optimal seating for sightlines of the interpreters as well as the action.
  • Hearing persons can purchase tickets to the ASL-interpreted performance like any other, except in the section reserved for ASL audiences. Remaining seats in this section will be released to the general public 48 hours prior to the performance.
  • If no one has requested tickets in the ASL section 48 hours before the show, the ASL interpreters will be canceled and the performance will proceed as any other.

Sensory-Friendly Performances

Throughout the season, Neptune Theatre offers relaxed performances, which are designed to welcome audience members who would benefit from a more relaxed environment, including (but not limited to) those with sensory sensitivities, learning differences, autism spectrum disorder, and first-time theatregoers. Minor production changes are made to reduce startling effects and there is a relaxed attitude towards audience noise and movement. We invite all patrons to come, be themselves and experience live theatre!
