Sensory-Friendly Performances

This is a new initiative through Neptune Theatre and Autism Nova Scotia. Our goal is to create a safe, inclusive space for all people to enjoy theatre.
These performances are intended for patrons who would benefit from a more relaxed environment, including (but not limited to) those with sensory sensitivities, learning differences, autism spectrum disorder, and first-time theatregoers.

Accommodations for these performances will include:

  • A companion ticket*

  • A Social Story on the website

  • A show-specific Character and Information Guide emailed to all ticket purchasers before the Sensory Friendly/Relaxed Performance

  • A live pre-show announcement

  • Avoidance of flashing and strobe lighting during the show

  • Reduction of loud and jarring sounds during the show

  • House lights over the audience remain on at a low level during the show

  • Food and drinks are allowed in the theatre

  • Audience members are free to talk and move around during the show as needed

  • A designated quiet space

  • Extra staff and volunteers

  • Extra signage to aid with ticket pick up, ordering snacks and drinks, and finding the way around the theatre

Companion ticket

Each ticket purchased may be accompanied by a companion/caregiver ticket upon request. This allows theatre lovers of all abilities the freedom to experience the wonderful entertainment Neptune Theatre has to offer.
