Acting Masterclasses & Intensives


Adult Training is open to students 18 years and older, with Intensives and Masterclasses offered in a wide variety of theatre disciplines. The intent of the Adult Masterclass is to allow you to focus on a specific skill you are looking to get training on. Adult Intensives are structured to train adults at a professional level in areas of theatre, dance, and performance. Courses are run by leading professionals in the community or experienced visiting artists.

Neptune Masterclasses offer adults and pre-professionals the opportunity to work with the best in the industry; building special skills, enhancing repertoire, networking with professionals, and challenging themselves as performers and artists. 

All Masterclasses take place at Neptune Theatre, 1593 Argyle St, Scotiabank Stage Entrance

Improv Foundations - Level B

Wednesdays, March 25 - April 15

Regular - $120+HST


Improv Foundations is an introductory improv class broken into two four-week sections: Introduction to Improv (Level A) and Fundamentals of Improv (Level B). Taught by local award-winning improvisers, we will focus on themes of Acceptance, Commitment and Collaboration, while spending time on character work, narrative skills and stage presence. Open and accessible to all skill levels, this class is tuned towards people looking for a more robust experience than a one off drop-in class. A perfect fit for anyone looking to add a little more improv into their life! To attend this class you must have attended our Neptune Drop-In Improv or have relative experience.

This course is recommended to those who hope to audition for the Neptune Improv Conservatory.

You must attend Level A (starting Feb 2020) to go on to Level B

About the Instructors - Colin McGuire & Liam Fair of Halifax Improv

Founded by Colin and Liam, Halifax Improv in a company focused on improv classes, training, and development. The pair have been improvising together for over a decade, and are two of the founding members of the award winning improv troupe, Hello City. Their interest in teaching and facilitation has inspired them to teach hundreds of workshops, from students to CEOs. They are proud and excited to continue their work in helping people and organizations through improv-inspired exercises.

Everybody Stand-Up! - with Bill Wood

Are you a budding comedian, do you have a few jokes jotted in a notebook, are you often regaling folks with funny tails of your exploits, maybe you just love stand-up and want to see if you too can take the stage and wow a crowd? If this sounds like you then sign up now!

This writing intensive workshop will show you how to train your brain to find comedic ideas in the real world, how to turn those ideas into jokes, and how to structure your jokes into a larger set, ready for the stage. Through in-class writing and performance exercises, students will be prepared for a final stand-up showcase at the end of the term. This class is appropriate for students ranging from complete novice to intermediate comedians. Wherever you are on the stand-up journey, we will help you gain skills and grow as a writer and performer.

If you took the last Stand-Up class, you are encouraged to come back for new and exciting in-class work!

About the Instructor - Bill Wood

Bill Wood is an Actor, Comedian, Magician and Writer. Working with Misery Loves Theatre company he co-wrote and produced various success theatre shows. He was part of PicnicFace, a sketch phenomenon and he has appeared on CBC's Mr.D as Frank the Guidance Counselor. Most recently Bill has been studying to become a Creative Arts Therapist specializing in the use of theatre process to aid growth and change.
