IGNITE
Theatre is an inherently ephemeral art form. If a play is never produced or never published, it is destined to exist in the memories of those who witnessed it only on the page. It's a fact that makes theatre one of the most magical of artistic mediums — but it also gives it the potential to be the most tragic. At Neptune Theatre we recognize our role in bringing the artistic dreams of the story makers to life. The development and creation of these stories into award-winning, magical theatrical productions that amaze an audience for weeks at a time could be seen as some of the most vital work we do.
Neptune Theatre's IGNITE Program develops musical theatre projects for future presentation.
Peace By Chocolate: The Musical
A brand-new musical based on the story of the Haddad family; Syrian refugees who arrived in smalltown Canada from war-torn Syria and quickly established themselves as an international chocolate empire. In partnership with Toronto’s Musical Stage Company, Neptune is spearheading this uplifting musical about transformation, hope, peace, and chocolate. (2027-28)
Mind The Light
Gabrielle Papillon’s evocative, queer, love story that spans generations and plays out in small-town Nova Scotia, set in a community whose survival is wrapped around a lighthouse.
Papillon is an award-winning musician and her evocative music weaves this tragic story together perfectly. (2026-27)
Jimmy Rankin Untitled Project
Award-winning Cape Breton singer-songwriter Jimmy Rankin stars in this new deeply personal and evocative show, telling his story in a new piece of theatre that will transport you to the Island, through his early years, the glory years of the Rankin Family's success and through his triumphs as a solo recording artist. In his own words Rankin tells it like it was and delivers hit after hit. (2026-27)
Keeping Up With The Joneses
The story of Nova Scotian civil-rights activists Rocky & Joan Jones and Walter Borden, brought to life by Andrew Craig, AD of Culchahworks.
Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Stokely Carmichael: just three of the undisputed heroes of the USA Civil Rights Movement. Canada, however, can boast of its own equally galvanizing - and divisive - leader: Nova Scotia's Rocky Jones, supported by his then-wife, Joan Jones. Walter Borden had barely reached his mid-twenties when he met the Joneses - well before he became Canada's preeminent actor of Black-Indigenous origin. In the late 1960s, these three very nearly incited a revolution in Nova Scotia, all while the RCMP tried to suppress them - resulting in a drama fit for Hollywood.
After successful workshop presentations in Halifax, Cherrybrook, and Toronto, KUWTJ has moved into its next phase of development. (2026-27)
