Winter Moons

Legends, star stories, and contemporary dance celebrating ancestral survival through winter

NOVEMBER 12 - 24, 2024

Story by shalan joudry Choreography by Sarah Prosper Directed by shalan joudry
Produced by Nestuita'si Storytelling
In Partnership with Prismatic Arts Festival

Directed by shalan joudry (Koqm), this dance theatre piece follows the teachings of L'nu (Mi'kmaw) women carrying a fire ember through the winter season - three moons of winter. Legends, star stories, and contemporary dance expresses the harsh realities of living off the land in a long ago Mi'kma'ki winter. If the women were able to keep the ember going until the Spring Equinox, there is a celebration to honour the women and the return of spring.

The premiere of Winter Moons brings together a diversity of Mi'kmaw talent to the stage.
