Frequently Asked Questions

How many theatres does Neptune Theatre have?
Neptune Theatre consists of two theatres - Fountain Hall which seats 458 and the Scotiabank Stage which seats approximately 192.

Does each theatre have its own bar, washroom and cloakroom?
Yes. Fountain Hall has two bars, the RBC Lounge on Orchestra level and the Spatz Lounge on the Balcony level. The RBC Lounge opens one hour before the start of each performance. The Scotiabank Stage also has its own bar, the Grant Thornton Lounge, that opens one hour before performances. Each theatre has washrooms and a complimentary cloakroom.

Can I bring my own food and drinks?
Sorry, no. Bottled water, juice and pop are available for sale and there is full bar service at the Theatre. Bottled water, juice, pop and alcohol purchased on-site will be permitted inside Fountain Hall and the Scotiabank Stage. Food is not allowed in the Theatre.

Is the theatre licenced?
Yes. Both Fountain Hall and the Scotiabank Stage are fully licenced. You are permitted to bring a beverage into the theatre with you.

Does Neptune Theatre cancel shows due to inclement weather?
Performances are rarely cancelled. Our standard guideline is to follow Halifax Metro Transit and the Halifax Dartmouth Bridge Commission. In the event of a severe weather cancellation, standard policies regarding exchanges are still in effect. For single ticket purchasers, exchanges must be made 48 hours in advance of your scheduled performance. For subscribers, exchanges must be made 30 minutes before your scheduled performance. No refunds or cancellations are allowed.

Are children allowed in the theatre?
Babes in arms or children under the age of four (4) are not permitted in the theatre. Strollers and/or baby carriers are also not permitted in the aisles due to fire regulations.  Children must be able to sit quietly in their own seats throughout a performance. If you are in doubt about bringing a child to any particular production, please ask before buying tickets. Please be aware that if you do bring a young child and that child creates a disturbance, you may be asked to leave the theatre by the Neptune Front of House staff. Every production has a recommended viewing age, please check our website or inquire with our Box Office for details. M inors under 14 years-of-age  must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all Fountain Hall and Scotiabank Stage performances.

How early should I arrive?
We suggest that you arrive at least 30 minutes before a show. Those arriving after the show begins will be seated by Neptune Front of House Staff during an appropriate break in the program at which time the appropriate seating location will be at the discretion of Management. Please don't be late. Come early and enjoy a cocktail before the show!

How long is the show?
Each show has a different running time. Please check the individual productions on this website or call the Box Office at (902) 429-7070 or 1-800-565-7345 to obtain the running time of the production you're attending. Sometimes we do not know the running time until the show opens, especially for newer works.

Sorry, no other discounts apply on already discounted tickets.

Do I have to purchase tickets in advance or can I wait to buy them when I arrive at the theatre?
Neptune Theatre does not require you to purchase tickets in advance but it is best to do so. Please keep in mind that many of our performances sell out in advance and you may find that your seating choices are very limited, if there are any remaining seats at all. We do have a “Rush” ticketing program but it is only for a limited number of tickets, on an availability only basis, and sold the day of the performance on a first come, first served basis. If you want to see a show, it is in your best interest to secure a seat in advance. We have many reasonable seating options, just ask our Neptune Theatre Box Office Agents at (902) 429-7070 or 1-800-565-7345.

Can I take pictures of the show?
Sorry, no. Cameras, video cameras and any other image or sound-recording devices are all strictly forbidden in theatre. Any photos will be confiscated and destroyed.

Can I tweet or text during the show?
Sorry, no. Please be considerate of fellow patrons and refrain from tweeting or texting during the show. When the performance starts, all electronic devices must be turned off. However, we do encourage you to share your Neptune experience with others after the show! Like us on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter and Instagram: @NeptuneTheatre

Is the theatre wheelchair accessible?
Both Fountain Hall and the Scotiabank Stage have wheelchair-accessible seating. If you require special assistance or need to book the wheelchair accessible seating in either Fountain Hall or Studio Theatre contact our Box Office prior to the show as it does fill up quickly for some performances. If you require an attendant/aid to assist you to attend the performance at Neptune Theatre, please call our Box Office at (902) 429-7070 or 1-800-565-7345 and a complimentary ticket will be provided for your attendant. Sorry, wheelchair accessible seating is not available online.

I am hearing impaired. Does Neptune Theatre offer amplification?
Neptune Theatre has an infrared sound enhancement system for the hearing impaired in Fountain Hall. If you require a headset please ask one of our Front of House Staff when you arrive at the Theatre and they will be more than glad to assist you. You may also bring your own headphones. Please note: A piece of ID or Credit Card will be required as a deposit while the headset is in your possession (don’t worry, it will be returned when you return the headset at the end of the performance).

Does Neptune Theatre offer Group Rates? How many do I need for Group Rates?
Group Discounts are available for all Neptune Theatre productions. The minimum size of a group to qualify for a discount is 20 persons. Please contact our Neptune Theatre Box Office and Subscriptions Manager for more details at (902) 429-7070 or 1-800-565-7345 for more information.

What does my ticket price include?
Subscriptions and Single tickets include a $5.00 CF/per ticket (Capital Fund), designated for the maintenance of the building and equipment upgrades which are integral to your enjoyment of Neptune Theatre performances. Advertised prices do not include HST unless otherwise indicated, but they do include service fees.

I can't attend the show, can I get a refund?
Like most theatres, Neptune Theatre does not offer refunds on tickets. All tickets purchased for a Neptune Theatre production can be exchanged for a different date and time of the same production (except extensions) 48 hours prior to your scheduled performance for a $3 plus HST per ticket exchange fee. Subscribers receive one complimentary exchange per production and tickets may be exchanged up to one-half hour before showtime; any additional exchanges are subject to the regular fee. Exchanges are subject to availability and do not apply to any missed performances. Exchanges are also not available from the original run of a production into any extension of that production. You may also turn your ticket in to the box office and make it a tax-deductible donation to the Neptune Theatre Foundation. Canada Revenue Agency regulations state that Neptune Theatre must have the opportunity to re-sell the ticket, and that tax receipts CANNOT be issued for any ticket after the date and time on the ticket.

What if I lose my tickets?
If you lose your tickets, please call the Neptune Theatre Box Office at (902) 429-7070 or 1-800-565-7345 as soon as you become aware of it.  We can reprint your tickets at no charge provided we are contacted by the person who purchased the tickets originally.

I’ve ordered Print-at-Home tickets online and did not receive them, what should I do?
You should receive your Print at Home tickets as a PDF attachment to the email address that you provided in your order and you should receive them almost immediately. If you have not received your tickets by the next day, please contact the Neptune Theatre Box Office at (902) 429-7070 or 1-800-565-7345.  Please note: The most common reasons that people do not receive their Print-at-Home tickets are: 1) they have entered their email address incorrectly in their orders; and 2) the email from Neptune Theatre is flagged as spam and rejected. To ensure that you receive email from Neptune Theatre, please add boxoffice@neptunetheatre.com to your email address book or spam filter permission list.

I have a gift certificate. How do I redeem it for tickets?
All gift certificates can be redeemed online, by phone or in person.  If your total order is more than the value of your gift certificate the difference must be charged to a credit card to complete the order and pay in full.

I have a voucher that I want to redeem for tickets. What do I do now?
Vouchers are not tickets and do not guarantee seating. You can redeem your voucher in person or book your tickets over the phone. Depending on the type of voucher, we may require a credit card guarantee to reserve your seats until you bring in the voucher. Any type of voucher cannot be redeemed online. If you are ordering Air Mile Vouchers please ensure you order the correct voucher type for the show you are planning to attend.

I'd like to have my tickets before the show but I can't make it to the box office to pick them up. Can I have my tickets mailed to me?
Yes. When ordering over the phone inform the clerk that you'd like your tickets mailed to you. When ordering tickets online, select "Mail out Tickets" as your delivery method. The cost for mailing out tickets is $4 plus HST.

I'm entitled to a discount. How can I apply it to online ticket purchases?
If you are eligible for a discount, there is a Promo Code box online where you can enter your discount code. Alternatively, we would be more than happy to help book your tickets either in person or over the phone (standard service charges apply when booking over the phone). Discounts must be mentioned at the time of purchase.

What should I wear?
Most of our patrons will probably be dressed in a business casual style and some are dressed casually. Both are fine. Complimentary coatrooms are provided.

Where can I park?
Street parking downtown can be a challenge. Allow extra time to find a convenient space. Outdoor metered parking near Neptune Theatre is free after 6:00 p.m. on weekdays, holidays and all weekend long. Parking garages within walking distance include the MetroPark parkade at the foot of Blowers Street; Scotia Square, the Nova Centre and the Prince George Hotel offer parking as well.

If you’d rather not worry about parking, many Halifax Transit bus routes stop on Barrington Street near the theatre. Check routes and schedules at www.halifax.ca/transportation/halifax-transit/routes-schedules

Additional Courtesy Reminders

Talking, candy wrappers and coughing are distracting to fellow patrons and actors. We ask each patron to please keep noise to a minimum during a performance. Thank you for your cooperation.

Scents and Allergies: A number of Neptune Theatre patrons have expressed concerns regarding medical reactions caused by scented products, so much so that they can’t enjoy the show. Please consider others before using items such as colognes, perfumes and hairspray. Remember - less is more, none is best. If you are experiencing an allergic reaction due to your seating location, please speak to an usher about the possibility of relocation immediately.
